Chris Tomlin & Louie GiglioHoly Is the Lord is from Chris Tomlin’s Arriving Album.

Yeah i know…. its been written a while back, but its just a super cool song, and i don’t know why we’ve not sung it yet in church.

It was recently at a friend’s wedding, and they were playing all of Chris Tomlin’s song prior to the commencement of the wedding ceremony, and i was just reminded how beautiful this song is!!

(Arrrghhh.. another song in my list to teach at church … the list seems to be growing so so long :) !! )

Anyway watch & listen to the video as Louie Giglio and Chris Tomlin shares about on how the song came together (interview with NewSongCafe). I always like to see how songs come together, and especially when the song comes direct or inspired from the scripture.

True Worshippers Shine Like StarsThis is a cool song from the True Worshippers band, from their previous album called Shine Like Stars. Its an upbeat song, and yes its a song in English.

Although True Worshippers are from Indonesia, their album consist a mix of English and Indonesian worship songs.

The song talks about how we as Christian should SHINE for Christ to the world of hurts and despair that’s around us. Its a song that’s taken from Matt 5:14, We’re the Light of the World! :)

Gateway Worship Wake Up The WorldWOO HOO!!! The second LIVE Worship CD from Gateway Worship. I remembered when i first stumbled on LIving For You last year in June, and was so excited with the potential of this new band in US.

I love the songs that they do, its dynamic, its powerful, its fun to sing, and its filled with the Spirit! Our fav in church its still their second song from their first CD called YOU YOU ARE GOD!

As i am writing this, i just received an SMS from our head of our Dance Ministry, asking for a sample of “YOU” cos they would be dancing to that song on the fourth week of April! WOO HOO!! :)

Anyway….cool factor that i like about Gateway Worship is that one of our dear friends, Victor is attending the church in USA. He was sharing with us last year when they did the recording and how he met Don Moen for the very first time (Asians would know what i mean… Don Moen was HUGE in worship back in the 90s all over Asia). Anyway , so Victor was saying how great the service was and was telling me to get it when it gets out!!

One MORE other great thing that i love about Gateway Worship is that they provide CHORDS for all their songs FREE OF CHARGE on their website! That’s the coolest church that i know who records cool songs and shares their chords for FREE! That’s really a blessing especially for people way over in Asia! Keep up the great work Gateway! :)

And now to the CD ……

Passion : God of the City

daren on March 4th, 2008

PASSION has a new alum with a wonderful mix of artistes and worship leaders. Its titled God of this City after Chris Tomlin’s song.

After listening many times, I’ve fallen in love with the first song of this album. (Will talk about it more later).

The album is a recording of 14 songs and like all Passion style, very rockish and with simple but great lyrics to worship God.

The first song - LET GOD ARISE was the song that really hit a note with me. The words are great as it talks about OUR GOD ARISES and our enemies will RUN! :) AMEN!!

Its a song to proclaim victory over our lives! Its a great and fun song to teach in church. Watch the two videos below, one’s a LIVE version with the full band (love that style) and the second video is an interview by newsongcafe where Chris Tomlin talks more about the song and how he took the words from Psalms 61 to write the song.

If you’re a fan of passion, get the cd!

A Brand New Year - 2008

daren on January 1st, 2008

As we start a Brand New Year … Year 2008. Sometimes in life we start off the year with great uncertainties which lies ahead. Some of our challenges are like Great Walls that stand up way over 20 feet high!!

And as many around us celebrate the Brand New Year … some are caught with the idea on how can we celebrate with challenges building up!

I just wanted to share a text message that a friend sent very timely this evening.

All she said was

As we step into the New Year, let us remember this song:
. . . Many things about tomorrow
I don’t seem to understand
But I know who holds tomorrow
And I know who holds my hand . . .

And its true… with GOD with us and on our side …. HE holds our tomorrows and He will hold our hand thru it all! :) So don’t be overly anxious and be encouraged that God will walk with us.

Its a really old song (not sure if its a Hymn), check it out as Kelly Price sings it … in her all gospel-soulish style … I Know Who Holds Tomorrow

Lyrics

Verse
I don’t know about tomorrow
I just live from day to day
I don’t borrow from it’s sunshine
For it’s skies may turn to gray
I don’t worry o’er the future
For I know what Jesus said
And today I’ll walk beside Him
For He knows what is ahead

Chorus
Many things about tomorrow,
I don’t seem to understand;
But I know Who holds tomorrow,
And I know Who holds my hand.

I have always loved STILL STANDING, even when Israel Houghton did it in the Alive in South Africa album. It was brilliant!

The song is an upbeat song and its another great song written by Cindy Cruse Ratcliff and Israel Houghton!! Woo Hoo … loved it! I like what they did this time in Free To Worship’s recording.

The song was slightly slower (or felt slower) and they threw in a medley to a Hymn!! Yes .. trust Lakewood to do great things like that in familiar songs.

Still Standing is the second song in the CD, and the medley only jumped into a two liner from a Hymn. It proclaims

On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand

Yups … we stand on Christ our Rock, and when we are Standing with Jesus .. nothing .. and nothing can shake us!! :) I love the truth that is always potrayed in the songs that Israel writes. So if you’ve not done this song yet …. listen to it in the video below and go teach it in your church this week!! :) WOO HOO!!! I’m STILL STANDING! !

Lyrics STILL STANDING
Chords - here

Verse1
You gave me courage to believe
That all Your goodness I would see
And if it had not been for You standing on my side
Where would I be

Chorus
If not for your goodness
If not for your grace
I don’t know where I would be today
If not for your kindness
I never could say I’m still standing
If not for your mercy
If not for your Love
I most likely would have given up
If not for your favour
I never could say I’m still standing
But by the grace of God

Verse2
To You I lift my offering
And set my heart on higher things
For if it had not been for You Standing on my side
Where would I be?

Bridge
I’m still standing
I’m still standing
I’m still standing
But by the grace of God
(Repeat)

Hymn
On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand

I absolutely love the way Lakewood re-did/remixed At The Cross. At the Cross & Mighty To Save are two powerful songs released from Hillsong’s Mighty To Save album.

But Lakewood redid the song so much better (from my perspective that is). Hills did it in a rather reflective way, the song At the Cross started slow and was slowly built up.

In Lakewood however, At The Cross was a medley from It Is Well With My Soul and it was in an upbeat tone and it really brings up the worship really really well! Loved it! And I simply love the medleys that Lakewood does in all of their albums. So it was a happy surprise when they medley At The Cross to Might To Save …. loved it!!! :)

The thrust and themes of the two songs are well represented too!! Its an amazing jump from one song to the other cos the Original Key for At The Cross is “E” and Mighty To Save is “A”.
Watch the video and listen to how they medley the jump from song to the other. Another point to take note is that Lakewood did not do Verse3 (which i personally feel its Darlene’s personal verse).

Lyrics AT THE CROSS
Chords - here

Verse 1
Oh Lord You’ve searched me,
You know my way;
Even when I fail You,
I know You love me.
Your holy presence
Surrounding me
In every season,
I know You love me;
I know You love me.

Chorus
At the cross I bow my knee,
Where Your blood was shed for me,
There’s no greater love than this.
You have overcome the grave,
Your glory fills the highest place,
What can separate me now?

Verse 2
You go before me,
You shield my way,
Your hand upholds me;
I know You love me.

Verse3
And when the earth fades,
Falls from my eyes,
And You stand before me,
I know You love me;
I know You love me.

Bridge:
You tore the veil, You made a way
When You said that it is done.

Lyrics Mighty To Save
Chords - here

VERSE 1
Everyone needs compassion
Love that’s never failing
Let mercy fall on me
Everyone needs forgiveness
The kindness of a Saviour
The hope of nations

CHORUS
Saviour
He can move the mountains
My God is mighty to save
He is mighty to save
Forever
Author of salvation
He rose and conquered the grave
Jesus conquered the grave

VERSE 2
So take me as You find me
All my fears and failures
Fill my life again
I give my life to follow
Everything I believe in
Now I surrender

BRIDGE
Shine Your light and let the whole world see
We’re singing
For the glory of the risen King

Hillsong United has at long last released their Live Version album for 2007! I trully enjoyed All of the Above, though it was Studio recorded. So it was with great anticipation when I got my hands on In A Valley By The Sea! (yeah a mouthful!)

I was rather disappointed that it was not a Full CD, it was just an EP*. There was only 7 songs recorded live and .. i was like .. why ler?

Was even more disappointed when i popped the CD into the player and cranked up the volume!!! As typical Hillsong United live recordings, there was lots of Electric Guitar, the beat was rather heavy and “grunchy” and the songs were always a little more heavy than the average Hillsong album! Was disappointed cos i didn’t enjoy listening to any of the seven songs being played on the player! I was like .. huh? Is that it? How come nothing catchy wan?

That was almost a week ago. Today … i decided to re-pop in the CD into the player again!! The song that jumped out at me was Break Free. If you heard the version from All of the Above .. you would have found it mild!! This time it really rocked! Yes yes.. the songs finally started to sink in .. and I started to enjoy the songs.

The other song that I now enjoy is Song 4 .. called Second Chance!! Try and get your hands on this EP CD and listen to them as they enter into WORSHIP with these songs! :)

The CD Tracks are : (Click on the Links to Download Lyrics)

  1. You Deserve (Matt Crocker & James Dunlop) - 5:06 (Free Lyrics)
  2. Love Enough (Braden Lang & Scott Ligertwood) - 2:57 - (Free Lyrics)
  3. Perfect Love (Dylan Thomas) - 4:27 - (Free Lyrics)
  4. Second Chance (Braden Lang & Scott Ligertwood) - 5:25 - (Free Lyrics)
  5. You Reign (Matt Crocker) - 5:05 - (Free Lyrics)
  6. To Know Your Name (Matt Crocker) - 3:15
  7. Break Free (Joel Houston, Matt Crocker & Scott Ligertwood) - 3:41

Some additional info that you may now know

The CD was recorded live at summercamp hence it’s nickname the “summercamp experiment”. This is also the second of the three part global project of Hillsong United. It was officially released at Encounterfest 2007 in October

Watch the Promotional Video of In A Valley By The Sea
- You’ll see video clips of their Summer camp and a narration on the purpose and goal of their Recording of In A Valley By The Sea. Its Awesome!!

If you enjoyed the Video above, you will definitely enjoy the following Video too

EP = Extended play (EP) is the name typically given to CDs which contain more music than a single, but are too short to qualify as albums. Usually, an EP has around 10–25 minutes of music, a single has up to 10 minutes and an album has 25–80 minutes.
